01. LinkedIn customer education platform

A six-week platform migration that avoided more than $300K in vendor-extension costs

Technical Program Manager, Customer Education Platform

LinkedIn · February 2020 to August 2022

I led a 10-person cross-functional squad through the Skilljar MVP launch and migration, then continued to own the roadmap and operations of a Learning Center serving 70K+ users.

The problem

LinkedIn Sales Solutions delivered learning content, webinars and workshops through several systems. Bringing that experience into one Learning Center required a migration within six weeks. Missing the window would have required a vendor extension costing more than $300K.

The work also extended beyond launch. Content managers and administrators needed to manage routine work, while the platform needed ongoing releases, integrations, upgrades and incident response.

My decisions and responsibilities

I owned the roadmap, implementation and migration. I translated requirements into delivery work and coordinated dependencies across the teams responsible for launch. The initial delivery was a Skilljar MVP, followed by continued ownership of the platform's capabilities and operations.

I introduced role-based workflows and administrator self-service tools, supported by documentation and training. These changes gave content managers and administrators more control over routine work. Content-management effort fell about 40%, and engineering ticket volume declined.

I added advanced search and filtering and expanded the platform into seven languages. I also established incident-response and release playbooks and managed integrations and upgrades, helping sustain 99.9% uptime.

How the team contributed

The squad brought together UX, Engineering and Customer Success. I led the cross-functional program and platform work and coordinated with Product and Skilljar through implementation and migration. Technical and design delivery depended on those specialist partners; my responsibility was the roadmap, requirements, dependencies and ongoing platform operations.

Outcomes

  • The squad launched the MVP and completed the migration in six weeks, avoiding more than $300K in vendor-extension costs.
  • The Learning Center served 70K+ users and expanded into seven languages.
  • Role-based workflows, self-service tools, documentation and training helped reduce content-management effort by about 40%.
  • Incident-response and release playbooks helped sustain 99.9% uptime.

This work shows how I lead a platform program through a consequential deadline and continue building the operating practices that make it useful after launch.
